The collection of the Danish physician
Ole Worm (1588-1654) in Copenhagen was famous throughout
Europe. The archaeological finds came from all over the Mediterranean
as well as northern Europe. Worm used them not only for research,
but also in his lectures. His illustrated catalogue (1655),
subdivided in four books - three dedicated to natural objects,
the fourth to ethnographical and archaeological artefacts
- reveals the composition of his collection and his classification
system of the natural and the artificial world.
